Advice for “newbies” doing their first China orders.

Posted by Roger under: Business in China; Quality Control (QC) .

A roundup of a few good articles I have recently come across which are worth mentioning - particularly for those who are new to China. People tend to forget that regardless of the industry you are in (For example, even the warm & fuzzy antiques, home furnishings & Chinese cultural products industry :) )  certain rules always apply:

  1. Don’t mess up with Quality in China…
  2. Find partners and consultants who have Specialties in China – (not China as a specialty)
  3. Old news for New China Hands: Nothing is quick here.

A) Don’t mess up with Quality in China…

The guys over at “chiefasiainspector” have an article entitled “Don’t mess up with Quality in China…” and while the article itself is not particularly impressive, it does high-light some of the recent quality problems occurring in China.

“I can’t help but insist on the importance of the Quality Inspections on-site, as much for every importer buying from China, as for the manufacters themselves who are willing to establish their reputation and improve.”

B) Find partners and consultants who have Specialties in China – (not China as a specialty).

Another excellent article for “newbies” which I felt really does a good job of explaining why this “oh, lets just work with the factory ourselves” mentality really does not work very well.

“Many newcomers to the China market feel that they are better off with a generalist that they can trust to get them pointed in the right direction at the beginning. This strategy may still have some life left in it, but you are going to run into some limitations very quickly. “

C) Old news for New China Hands: Nothing is quick here.

Another great article which sums it up nicely!

“There’s an awful lot of activity. People are busy. REALY busy. Starting jobs. Starting jobs over. Doing the same job several times. Doing 78% of a job and then stopping. There’s a non-stop pace to the activity – but it’s sometimes hard to pinpoint exactly what’s getting completed.
